Job Description:
Responsibilities
- Route Navigation: Follow assigned routes and time schedules to pick up and drop off students at designated bus stops.
- Vehicle Safety Checks: Conduct comprehensive pre-trip and post-trip inspections (brakes, tires, lights, fuel, and emergency equipment) to ensure the bus is mechanically sound.
- Passenger Management: Maintain order and discipline on the bus, ensuring students remain seated and follow safety protocols to prevent distractions.
- Student Safety: Operate stop signs and flashing lights to alert traffic when students are boarding or exiting. Assist students with disabilities or younger children in crossing streets and boarding when necessary.
- Communication: Update school administrators, dispatch, and parents regarding route delays, traffic hazards, or behavioral incidents.
- Incident Reporting: Complete and submit incident reports, mileage logs, and maintenance requests.
Key Qualifications & Skills
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL): Typically requires the appropriate class license for passenger transport, along with school bus and passenger endorsements.
- Clean Driving Record: A continuous history of safe driving with no major at-fault accidents or traffic violations.
- Background Check: Must pass state/federal criminal background checks and drug/alcohol screenings.
- Certifications: CPR and First Aid certifications are often required or highly preferred.
- Interpersonal Skills: Patience, adaptability, and the ability to communicate professionally with parents, teachers, and students.
